Amy Poehler gushed over boyfriend Joel Lovell between quips about NPR and the New England Patriots after winning the inaugural Golden Globe Award for best podcast on Jan. 11.

"Thank you to Joel Lovell," she said in her acceptance speech. "I love you. Thank you for everything."

The "Good Hang" podcast host brought Lovell as her date to the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, though Poehler mostly graced the red carpet alone. Inside California's Beverly Hilton hotel, though, Poehler and Lovell beamed while walking hand-in-hand.

It was not the couple's first award show date night.

Lovell, a former magazine editor turned podcast executive, joined his girlfriend at the Academy Awards last year. The pair were reportedly first linked in October 2024, according to People.

These celebrity couples walked the red carpet for the first big award show of the year hand in hand. First up, Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet got close together in the audience of the ceremony.

Poehler's beau is no stranger to the podcast world.

Lovell was most recently the executive editor of Pineapple Street Studios, a podcast production studio, according to a bio in the American Society of Magazine Editors. Pineapple Street shut down in June 2025.

Before that, he was the executive editor at the This American Life podcast and worked on the first two seasons of the "Serial" podcast. Lovell was also previously the deputy editor of The New York Times Magazine.

A native of upstate New York, Lovell attended Cornell University and earned a master of fine arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1994, according to a 2016 article from the latter school.

While at Cornell, Lovell planned to attend medical school but decided to apply to a MFA program after gaining an interest in reading and writing fiction, according to his UM feature.

After earning his MFA degree, Lovell taught undergraduate fiction writing at UM before pivoting to work for Harper's Bazaar.

"My friend had applied for a job at the magazine but decided not to take it, so he recommended me. I literally just got a call one day from an editor asking if I’d be interested in applying for an editing job. That was 20 years ago," Lovell told UM.

In addition to stints at Harper's Bazaar and The New York Times Magazine, Lovell also worked at GQ, according to UM.
