Congrats to Ethan Hawke for receiving his fifth Oscar nomination this past week — and first in the Lead Actor category.
The longtime performer, 55, was honored for his transformative work (if you've seen it, you know) in Blue Moon, directed by Richard Linklater. Ethan faces some stiff competition at the 2026 Academy Awards, however — so who will take home the gold in March?
In the meantime, Ethan is currently in Utah for this year's Sundance Film Festival, where his new movie The Weight is premiering. Fun fact: the Training Day actor actually performs his own stunts in the historical action-drama, Variety reports.
While opening to the magazine about his latest project, Ethan also spoke about his daughter Maya Hawke, who first grabbed Hollywood's attention thanks to Stranger Things. Now that the hit Netflix show's fifth and final season is in the books, Ethan offered some sound advice to his rising-star offspring:
“Time to move on. You got to do it, and move on,” he said, per Variety. “Don’t look back.”
Fans of the Hawkes might recall that Ethan actually directed Maya, 27, in the 2023 indie film Wildcat, a biographical drama about author Flannery O’Connor. The pair have yet to act together, however — but that doesn't mean Ethan isn't interested in the opportunity.
“Heck yeah, are you kidding me?” Ethan told Variety. “I want to be with the star of Stranger Things."
On that note, the Black Phone 2 star had nothing but love for his daughter earlier this month when the beloved series came to an end.
"I am so proud of her. I am so proud of that whole group of people that made that show, Ethan told Access Hollywood. "I don’t think people understand how difficult it is to make something that bold and that giant and that swashbuckling and have it resolve as beautifully as they did."
