Rep. Cory Mills, R-Fla., is under criminal investigation by the Justice Department, three people familiar with the matter told NBC News on Tuesday.
The investigation touches on Mills’ finances, according to two of the people. Investigators are interested in some of his overseas business dealings, according to one of the sources.
Mills’ office did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday night.
He told MS NOW, which first reported the probe, “I know nothing about it.”
The Justice Department investigation is being run out of the Middle District of Florida, according to two of the people familiar with the matter.

Mills is also the subject of a probe by the House Ethics Committee of allegations of “sexual misconduct and/or dating violence,” as well as potential campaign finance violations. He has denied any wrongdoing.
That probe got underway in November. In April, he said he was complying with the committee and had turned over documents.
A month before the bipartisan committee opened its investigation, Mills was issued a restraining order for “protection against dating violence” after his ex-girlfriend accused him of threatening and harassing her. Mills was alleged to have threatened to release sexually explicit videos and images of the woman, according to a police incident report NBC News obtained in August. He denied any wrongdoing.
Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., introduced a resolution in April to expel Mills from Congress over the allegations of sexual misconduct. Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said in April that he did not encourage House Republicans to seek to expel one another and that the proper process would play out in the Ethics Committee’s investigation.
Despite facing bipartisan pressure to resign, Mills said in late April that he would still run for re-election. In the GOP primary, scheduled for Aug. 18, he will seek to fend off a challenge from former local news reporter Ryan Elijah.
