King Charles and ex-Prince Andreware facing renewed scrutiny over money connected to Royal Lodge. The latest dispute centers on rental income that has never been publicly disclosed.

Pressure is mounting on King Charles over calls to expose Prince Andrew’s private income

RadarOnline reported that pressure is building for the Royal Household to reveal how much Andrew earned by subletting three cottages on the Windsor estate. An unnamed royal source claimed there was “little appetite” to keep the figures private if Parliament formally requested them.

However, King Charles has not announced that he will release the information. Sir James Chalmers, keeper of the Privy Purse and the king’s treasurer, told Parliament that the household could obtain the numbers. He said, “We can get it,” but explained that MPs would need to make a formal request before the details could pass to the National Audit Office and Parliament.

The National Audit Office confirmed in June that Andrew directly rented the three cottages to tenants and received the income. Its report also said the cottages had been vacant since April 2026. Crucially, the watchdog stated that it did not know how much rent Andrew charged.

That gap has fueled calls for greater transparency around Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s finances. Former Public Accounts Committee chair Baroness Margaret Hodge questioned whether the arrangement created a potential loss for taxpayers. Royal biographer Andrew Lownie also argued that the income should have been disclosed earlier.

The controversy has become part of wider King Charles news as the British royal family faces questions about transparency and private support for nonworking relatives.

The arrangement formed part of Andrew’s long-term Royal Lodge lease. He paid a £1 million premium and committed to spend £7.5 million on renovations, which helped secure a peppercorn rent. The lease allowed him to sublet the cottages and keep the proceeds.

The dispute arrives shortly after Charles revealed his personal tax payments in a royal first. It also follows reports that the king would continue providing for Andrew to keep him away from public life and that Andrew’s allowance could decrease after leaving Royal Lodge.

For now, the amount Andrew earned remains private. The palace has indicated that it can produce the information, but Parliament must first use the proper process. Any suggestion that Charles has already ordered the disclosure goes beyond what officials have confirmed.
