The season 2 finale of Percy Jackson and the Olympians premiered Jan. 21 on Disney+

Life changed pretty fast for Walker Scobell.

The actor was just 13 when he was cast as Percy Jackson in Disney+'s Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and was fresh off the release of his film debut in Netflix's The Adam Project.

Season 1 of the series, which was adapted from Rick Riordan's beloved books about the titular demigod, premiered in December 2023, and Scobell, now 17, remembers it was "a little bit weird" to go back to school afterwards.

"When season 1 was coming out, I was on the press tour, and then I came back, and I think going back to school after the press tour was a little bit weird," he tells PEOPLE.

Luckily, he's been "going to the same school since I was in fourth grade, and I think that's really helped me."

"Because I feel like I know everybody so well, and I've known them for such a long time that it's weird to act like — it's weirder to act like it's weird," Scobell explains.

"I feel like you just accept it right away, and everyone has, which has been super nice for me."

Scobell is in the midst of filming season 3 of the hit series, while also promoting season 2, so he hasn't been back to school in a little while.

"But I'm really interested to see what it's going to be like when I get back after filming and after season 2 is fully out," he says. "That's going to be really interesting."

Juggling being a high schooler with leading a TV series can be a lot, but Scobell says, "I don't think there is a right way to deal with it."

"Everyone did it their own way, and everyone just accepted it right away, which is super nice," he says of how his friends and loved ones have adjusted to his newfound fame.

In season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Percy (Scobell) embarks "on an epic odyssey into the Sea of Monsters in search of his best friend Grover (Aryan Simhadri) and the one thing that may save the camp — the legendary Golden Fleece."

He relies on the help of Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries), Clarisse (Dior Goodjohn) and his cyclops half-brother, Tyson (Daniel Diemer), as he fights to stop Luke (Charlie Bushnell) "the Titan Kronos, and their impending plan to bring down Camp Half-Blood — and ultimately, Olympus," per the official synopsis.

Season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is now streaming on Disney+.
