Donald Trump reacts as he receives the FIFA Peace Prize on Dec. 5
Seth Meyers is going after Donald Trump for accepting a "fake" peace prize.
"Donald Trump got a fake peace prize from FIFA and said we should change the name of American football because soccer is the real football — something that would have made Donald Trump furious if anyone besides Donald Trump had said it," he joked at the outset of Monday's new episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers.
The SNL vet continued to rip the 45th and now 47th President, joking, "Donald Trump has been desperate his entire life for human connection — I'm just kidding, for big old shiny awards."

Meyers rolled clips from several occasions over the course of Trump's long tenure in public life in which the former host of reality competition series The Apprentice either bemoaned the fact that he hadn't won an award he was in the running for or boasted about winning an award of dubious provenance.
"In his previous life as a game show host, he was obsessed with the fact that he never won an Emmy," Meyers noted, playing a segment from season 14 of The Celebrity Apprentice in which Trump explained to contestants like Geraldo Rivera and Vivica A. Fox that he was so certain he would win an Emmy at one particular ceremony, he stood up and began walking toward the stage before the actual winner was even called.
"If I stood up and started walking for an Emmy I did not win, I would not stop walking until I had submerged myself in the Pacific Ocean," Meyers cracked.

The Fédération Internationale des Associations de Football, also known as the International Federation of Football Associations and simply referred to as FIFA, inaugurated the tradition of awarding an annual "peace prize" this year. President Gianni Infantino bestowed a gilded trophy and medal upon Trump last Friday at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. — an event watched by millions of sports fans around the globe, because it also saw the official 2026 World Cup draw.
During the ceremony, Trump remarked that soccer fans in the United States "seemed to never call" the sport by its internationally recognized name, football, "because we had a little bit of a conflict with another thing that's called football. But when you think about it, shouldn't it really be called, I mean, this is football, there's no question about it, we gotta come up with another name for it."
Infantino cheered for Trump's suggestion, but Meyers called it a sign that FIFA's "gambit worked exactly as planned," all because "Trump was so easily swayed by the special trophy."

Meyers wasn't the only one who ripped Trump for his FIFA prize.
The ladies of The View tore Trump to pieces on Monday, with former federal prosecutor and legal expert Sunny Hostin doubling Meyers' dubbing of the prize as a "fake award" for someone still jealous that "President Obama got the Nobel Peace Prize," while Republican commentator Ana Navarro quippeda, "If you show up with a tchotchke, preferably covered in gold, and give that to the three-year-old in the Oval Office, he will be entertained and he will be happy."
