Craft wore her mom’s 1999 wedding dress and says the day felt sentimental and “absolutely amazing”

A TikTok of her bridesmaids introducing themselves went viral with nearly 11 million views and sparked widespread reactions

Maddy Craft always knew that she didn't want to be the only one in white on her wedding day.

When she and her friends would talk about their future weddings, she always loved how “clean, crisp and cohesive an all-white bridal party looked.”

“White has also always kind of been my favorite color, so while a lot of brides pick a favorite color for their wedding theme, mine naturally ended up being white,” Craft, 24, tells PEOPLE.

The Minnesota resident had a bridal party of 10 bridesmaids, three flower girls and one personal attendant, each of whom wore white despite the age-old "rule" that the color is reserved for the bride.

Through the process of picking the dresses, Craft admits that she learned “there are way more shades of white than I ever realized, everything from ivory to off-white to beige tones.”

“I really wanted the dresses to match my wedding dress as closely as possible, so everything looked really cohesive," she shares. "I also looked for similar necklines to tie everything together."

While she "definitely knew choosing white bridesmaid dresses would cause some controversy since it’s not very traditional," she trusted her gut, noting that she "had the vision in my head for so long and knew it was exactly what I wanted.”

She says that it was “really special” having “so many important people standing up there" on her big day.

“A lot of my friendships go way back too, some from kindergarten, elementary school, middle school and high school, and we’ve somehow all stayed close through every stage of life," she shares.

The wedding itself, she says, was “absolutely amazing" and people "still comment on how beautiful the venue and entire day" was months later.

"More than anything, though, it was just so special having everyone important to my husband and me all together in one place, celebrating with us. It’s one of those days we truly wish we could relive over and over again,” Craft shares.

Craft didn’t tell anyone ahead of time that her bridesmaids would be wearing white, so it was a “surprise” for many guests, she admits.

“During cocktail hour, I heard so many comments about how shocked people were when they saw the bridesmaids walk down the aisle all in white. I think it caught people off guard at first,” Craft shares.

She posted a video of her bridesmaids on TikTok, and it went viral, getting nearly 11 million views.

Craft shares that it’s “been crazy” seeing the reaction to the video.

“What started as just a fun TikTok we made while getting ready on the wedding morning turned into a viral moment with over 10.5 million views and thousands of comments from people sharing their opinions on the all-white bridesmaid dresses,” Craft says.

She shares that “a lot of people were also really touched by the fact that many of my friendships go all the way back to kindergarten and different seasons of life.”

“Another big talking point was that I wore my mom’s wedding dress from September 1999, which made the day feel even more special and sentimental to me,” Craft shares.

Some people in the comments section wondered if Craft worried about whether people would know who the bride was, but she "wasn’t worried at all.”

“My dress had such a long, classic train and a very different look from the bridesmaids’ dresses, so I felt like I still stood out while everything looked really cohesive together,” Craft shares.

Craft says that other brides reached out after she posted the video, with a few admitting that they wanted to do the same, but were “nervous because of the backlash they thought they might get.”

“A few even told me that after seeing my video, they changed their minds and decided to go for it,” Craft shares. “I also loved hearing from women who got married years ago and shared that they had white bridesmaid dresses too. It was really cool seeing how many people connected with it and realizing the idea has actually been around longer than people think.”
