Mackenzie Shirilla's case is the subject of multiple documentaries, including The Crash
The Crash debuted May 15 on Netflix
Allegedly, a Netflix video podcast, also covered the case and conviction of Shirilla
The case of Mackenzie Shirilla continues to captivate viewers.
The Crash — the new Netflix documentary about Shirilla's murder conviction relating to the deaths of her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and friend, Davion Flanagan — has dominated headlines since its premiere on May 15. The documentary explained the case and conviction of Shirilla, featuring her first interview since her hearing.
While the Netflix feature lays out the information of the tragic event and its aftermath, it leaves out a number of details that are covered in other documentaries. For example, in Hulu's docuseries Mean Girl Murders, several of Shirilla's classmates contradicted her account of the fatal accident, saying they believe she murdered Russo and Flanagan.
Her former friend, Jaina Maynard, claimed that Shirilla could have "been a lot more if she just chose a different route and got the help she needed."

The popular Netflix documentary tells the tragic story of Shirilla and the car crash that killed her boyfriend, Russo, and their friend, Flanagan. The Crash recounts the accident and Shirilla's conviction, and it also features, for the first time, an interview with Shirilla herself.
"She was never interviewed by the police either before or after her arrest," director Gareth Johnson told Tudum in May 2026. "It would be unprecedented if she spoke to us, and luckily she said yes.”
Producer Angharad Scott added, "It was extraordinary, after months of research for the story, to finally sit down and put to Mackenzie all the questions everybody else has been asking."
The Crash is available to stream on Netflix.

The episode also features video footage of Shirilla and her classmates out partying and attending their high school graduation.

"I just don't think she's mentally all there," Proctor claims in footage shown in the episode. "I personally feel like she was trying to kill herself in that crash, and she failed on doing so, is what I feel like."
Episode 12 of season 4 originally aired in December 2023 on A&E, but it is now available to stream on Hulu. The full "Murder on Wheels" episode is also available on A&E's YouTube channel.

Court TV's Vinnie Politan Investigates is a series hosted by Vinnie Politan where he "looks at every angle of the cases making headlines," per the official network description.
In the episode, the former New Jersey prosecutor breaks down several key moments in the case, including body camera footage from her arrest and the decision to hold a bench trial as opposed to a jury.
"The Case Against Mackenzie Shirilla" originally premiered in January 2025. It is available to watch on the Court TV website and YouTube channel.

Mean Girl Murders explores what happens when high school drama leads to homicides and crime. Season 2, episode 7, "Under the Influence," features interviews with those who knew Shirilla.
"When I first met Mackenzie in middle school, I thought she was the most beautiful, bright, happiest girl and I just wanted to be her friend," Maynard recalls in the episode. "She had a very big personality."
However, her classmates soon change their tune. Maynard claims Shirilla was "terrible to people," while Shirilla's former friend Rachel Anderson alleges that she "wanted to be at the top."
"Mackenzie gets what she wants, Mackenzie is never punished," Anderson says. "Now Mackenzie is punished, and there's nothing Mackenzie or her family can do."
It also includes claims from Shirilla's trial that she was in the area where the fatal incident occurred on July 28, 2022 — days before the crash. Tim Troup, Cuyahoga County's assistant prosecutor, alleged that Shirilla was conducting a "dry run" a few days before the crash.
However, in court, Detective Hazou said that GPS data from cellphones is approximate, so it's possible that Shirilla was not at that exact intersection on July 28.
Mean Girl Murders' episode "Under the Influence" is available to stream on Hulu and HBO Max.
