The upcoming "Tomb Raider" TV series has paused production as star Sophie Turner recovers from an injury.

Amazon MGM Studios confirmed that production on the action series has been paused in a statement shared with USA TODAY on March 29. Details of Turner's injury were not disclosed.

"Sophie Turner recently experienced a minor injury," the statement from Amazon MGM Studios said. "As a precaution, production has briefly paused to allow her time to recover. We look forward to resuming production as soon as possible."

"Tomb Raider" sees Turner, 30, step into the iconic role of Lara Croft, the adventurer and archaeologist from the hit video game franchise. The character was previously played by Angelina Jolie in two feature films, released in 2001 and 2003.

The star noted on the show that getting into shape had been particularly challenging because she had not worked out much before.

"It's much easier to build muscle if you've ever worked out before in your life, which I never had, so it has taken me months and months and months to get into good shape," Turner said, also noting she learned during this process that she has a "perpetual back problem."
